DIY-How To Install Dstv Dish By Yourself

This is how to install a Dstv dish by yourself. 

For safety purposes, it is advisable to find an accredited installer to install your dish. This will minimise the risk of your dish falling on down.

But if you don't mind soiling your hands a little bit, then you can install it yourself.

What you need

1. A hammer
2. Essential spanners; Numbers 10/11, 12/13 and 14/15.
3. Flat and Star screw drivers
4. Pliers
5. 4 or more 3" steels nails (Not necessary if you are going to drill.)
6. Insullation tape
7. 4 pieces of cable ties.

What Is In Your Dstv Full Kit

1. 1  Dstv decoder
2. 1  dish plate (90 cm)
3. 1 wall bracket
4. 1 dish arm
5. 25 m coaxial cable
6. 1 LNB
7. I box of accessories

Assembly

• Attach the arm on the dish plate using the two identical plates. 
• The two plates should face opposite each other.
• Fasten the elevator on the arm.
• Attach the bracket holder
• Attach the Lnb holder
• Fasten the Lnb on the Lnb holder
• Connet the cable using an F-connector.
• Fasten the cable on the dish using cable ties.
•  Don't forget to leave a cable drip loop.
  

Instalation

• Mount the bracket on the wall using steel nails or by drilling the wall.
• Attach and fasten the dish on the bracket.
  
• Connect the other end of the cable to the meter.
• Start moving the dish up and down slowly as you move the dish round.
• Whe you hit the signal, you will hear a beeping sound and see the two bars on the meter with a signal level.
• The bar below is the signal quality, maximise it.
  
• In case you don't have a meter, you can connect the decoder to your TV and have someone manually read for you the signal quality.
• Clip the cable neatly on the wall. Avoid sharp bends on your cable, it causes mismatches.

Programming the decoder

• After maximising signal quality, connect the cable to your decoder and switch it on.
• The screen will show step 1, select English
  
• Step 2 select satellite E36B for East Africa, or IS20 for Southern Africa.
• Select Manual setting
• Change Lnb type to either Universal or Unicable depending on the LNB you are using.
• Make sure the bars have a signal
• Press scan
• Let the decoder scan and automatically download the software. The process will take approximatelly 18 minutes.
