Dstv Common Error Codes And How To Clear Them

Needless to say, Tv viewing is a major part of our lives. Dstv offers a great way to watch international sports, movies, news etc around the world.

So, what happens when you turn on your Dstv and it's not working? Chances are there will be an error code on your screen.

So what do those error's on Dstv mean? Lets's see what Dstv error codes mean.

Error E16-4 Service is currently scrambled

This is the most common error. Chances are you have seen this error on your TV at least once. It means the account is not paid for or the service is not available in your country.

If you haven't paid, you can pay for your account using available options in your country. If already paid, you can clear E16-4 by dialing *423# (Kenya), calling customer care or logging into your Dstv App.

Error E30 Service Is Currently Scrambled

This error can arise if you are installing a new decoder. It can also show if you have stayed for a long period without paying for your decoder. When you pay, the error will show before normal viewing can resume.

This error should clear itself within 2 minutes, if not you should contact multichoice.

Error E18 Unknown Smartcard

This means the service is scrambled and access has been stopped. This happens if the decoder is disconnected from the dish or power for a long time. This can also happen if you use a wrong card, you insert the smartcard incorrectly or you use a card that has dust or dirt covering the chip. It can also be as a result of a technical problem from the company.

Connect the decoder well, remove the smartcard and wipe on a cotton cloth and insert it well. Wait for 15 minutes and resume viewing. If it istill persists, contact customer care.

Error E143-4 Waiting For Communication From Primary Decoder.

This is an error that occurs on the secondary decoder of an extra view setup. This happens when the secondary decoder is not receiving communication from the primary decoder.

It might be because there is a disconnection on the heartbeat cable. (The heartbeat cable is a cable that connects the 2 decoders to facilitake extra view setup). The second reason is, the extra view might be disconnected in multichoice systems.

To clear this error code one has to confirm the the heartbeat cable is not damaged in any way and well connected. If both checks are ok, call multichoice customer care for system reconnection. If all the three fail, you can cintact your installer.

Error E04 Please insert Smartcard

This error occurs if the card is inserted, or not well inserted. The other reason is maybe the card or the card reader has a problem.

To clear this error, remove the card, wipe it gently with a dry cloth. Insert the card with the chip facing down, and the arrow pointing front.
Reboot if this persists. If after rebooting the error is still there, visit your nearest multichoice office.

Error E17/E107 Smartcard Marriage Conflict

This error means you are using a wrong card or your card is not yet registerd with the device you are using.

To solve this, confirm if you are using the correct card and reboot the decoder. If not yet solved, call customer service.

Error E14 Service Is Currently Scrambled

This erroe shows your services are scrambled or suspended. This happens if the decoder is not paid for or you paid while the decoder is off power.

 If you already paid, change to another channel then back, viewing will resume. If still you cant view, reboot the decoder. Should that not work, call customer service.

Error E48-32

This error shows there is a problem with the signal. The decoder is not receiving a signal from the dish. This might be temporary problem due to factors like rain or snow. It becomes an issue if the error persists.

Do the normal checks if the cables are well connected. If nothing changes, call your installer to solve the problem.

Error E162-0

This error means you do not have permission to view the Channel or the Channel is suspended.

To solve this, confirm if the channel is allowed in your regeon. If it is, pay for that package. If already paid call customer service.
